Jiwon Moon
Jiwon Moon is a painter born and raised in South Korea whose artistic style is inspired by organic forms, contemporary visions and surrealism. In the past, her main mediums have been oil painting and digital collage, through which she visualizes an ideal world. Her work plays with the contrast and harmony between natural and linear forms. This idea of balance is expressed through complementary combinations of colors and shapes. By pointing to these differences, Moon comments that human life is driven and created by nature, not the artificial world. She usually draws inspiration from the natural world: not only its appearance but also its existence. Using this organic imagery, Jiwon Moon fabricates an imaginary world that feels close and far away at the same time. Since coming to Pittsburgh, she has switched mediums, focusing more on acrylic colors. Still, she relies on natural landscapes like desserts, waterfalls, glaciers, etc, as well as organic textural elements like wood, stone and water. However, with this new medium, Moon is exploring extensions of her ideal world. To break up familiar visuals she is introducing industrial products, hoping to transform the pure ideal world into another version of paradise that recognizes modern human desire.
