Brent Nakamoto

Brent Nakamoto is a multidisciplinary artist, working primarily in oil painting, especially works based on the photograph. He is interested in interrogating the way we read images—especially figurative images and portraiture—and his painting practice is influenced by Buddhist philosophy and Zen meditation. Other projects include photography, collage, poetry, and creative non-fiction.

Brent is originally from Santa Clara, CA. He received his BA in Art from UC Santa Barbara in 2012 and his MFA in Visual Art from Washington University in St. Louis in 2018. He is currently living in Pittsburgh, PA.
