Lisa Ash

Lisa's work is a series of relief-sculptural paintings that incorporate assemblage and mosaic. These works serve as auto-biographical narrative reflecting her experience as an African American woman and mother who has not always been able to speak her truth. Over the past twenty five years, her work as a graphic artist, photographer, and videographer has solely revolved around promoting the hip hop music careers of her husband and sons. Now, she brings all of those elements into her artwork. Influenced by her love of stained glass, portraiture, and hip hop culture she combines broken ceramic tiles, cut glass, and sculpted clay pieces with colored resin, which gives them a glasslike quality, in order to share her stories that have been dormant. Through her work, she invites the viewer to experience their own visceral response to her story.

Lisa is fascinated with taking the broken, discarded, lost, and sometimes ordinary or overlooked things, and using them in new and meaningful ways. Her goal is to either use them to tell a story, or transform them into something that communicates a message to anyone who is ready to receive it.
