About the guest: matt lambert is a non-binary, trans, multidisciplinary collaborator and co-conspirator working towards equity, inclusion, and reparation. Their practice is based in polydisciplinamory, entangling making, writing, curating, collaborating, and performing. lambert is currently a PhD candidate at Konstfack University of Art, Craft and Design, in Stockholm Sweden in philosophy in artistic practice in visual, applied and spatial arts. Their research focuses on mapping collaborative movements with craft through a developed methodology of cruising. They have a MA in Critical Craft Theory from Warren Wilson College and an MFA in Metalsmithing from Cranbrook Academy of Art

lambert is interested in the relationship of body, object and place and the movements or constellations that form between these points and how they can contribute to discourse on decolonial, queer and feminist thinking. lambert collaborates with multi-media artists of a vast array of disciplines to reconfigure the current cultural systems of queerness and body politics while challenging the boundaries of craft. lambert has shown internationally having solo/collaborative project exhibitions such as at Benaki Museum (Greece) ATTA Gallery (Thailand), The Royal Armoury Museum (Sweden), GIBCA Extended Biennale (Sweden), represented the US in Triple Parade (China) and Norway during Milan Design (Italy), as well as group shows such as at Turner Contemporary (UK), Museum Angewandte Kunst (Germany) and Walker Art Center (US)

They actively write and curate most recently as a Curatorial Fellow with Center for Craft where they curated Desire Paths with co-fellow Lauren Kalman. They were the guest editor for Decorating Dissonance issue #15 on Tools Use & Mastery. They have recently written for Surface Design Journal, Metalsmith Magazine, Garland, The Vessel and STUDIO.

matt is in Pittsburgh for the opening of Self , an exhibition at Contemporary Craft (April 14, 2023 – August 19, 2023). The exhibition explores concepts related to cross-cultural expectations of gender, and what type of interactions will hence follow, from the most mundane elements of self to the defining moments that make up our lives.
