Janice Schuler
Janice was born and raised in Pittsburgh, PA. She studied Art and Printmaking at Carnegie-Mellon University, and has advanced degrees in Media Arts. Two events occurred early on in Schuler’s life that continue to remain major influences for her art: attending the P.M. Palettes program at the Carnegie Music Hall with Mr. Joseph Fitzpatrick and visiting the Van Gogh exhibit with her mother at the age of twelve. She fell in love with it all… painting, art, images, creating.
Schuler has a penchant for the comical, color, and caricature. She collects children's art and strives to think like a child as a nod to Picasso's quote: "Every child is an artist. The problem is how to remain an artist when we grow up." Her work is inspired by industry, nature, people and our ideas about the unknown. She believes art is the perfect way to manifest ambiguities; each mark is part of an exploration, a question, a statement, a reasonable response.
