Stephanie Martin
Stephanie Martin is a ceramicist creating biomorphic forms. She grew up in a small rural Pennsylvania town where the Appalachian Mountains hugged her, and the rivers ran orange from sulfur, inspiring her to develop her invented worlds and environments. Martin received her BS in Art Education with a Studio Art minor in 2012 and her MA with an emphasis in Ceramics in 2018, both from Indiana University of Pennsylvania. Her work was included in the 30 Under 30 Exhibition at Viridian Artists Inc. in New York City in 2019. Since then, she has exhibited her work extensively throughout Pennsylvania, including solo shows at UnSmoke Systems and Spruce Art Residency Gallery and group shows at the Westmoreland Museum of American Art, Carnegie Museum of Art, SPACE Gallery, Boxheart Gallery, and the Erie Art Museum. She was selected for the Three Rivers Arts Festival Juried Visual Arts Exhibition in 2019 and 2022 and Art of the State in 2022. She has further developed her artistic practice at residencies, including one at the prestigious Watershed Center for the Ceramics Arts in 2024. Martin and her work have been featured in publications like Carnegie Magazines and Ceramics Monthly. She has also received some meaningful honors and accolades, including the Agnes and James Kinard Scholarship at Touchstone Center for Crafts, the First Place People’s Choice award at You Are Here Gallery, Associated Artists of Pittsburgh's May 2024 Featured Artist, and a Work Study Scholarship at Pocosin Arts. She is an active member of the Associated Artists of Pittsburgh.
